2010 Eligibility Rulings
The rulings on eligibility made at the Joint Eligibility Meeting where applicants to the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting were considered are as follows :
Silver Medal Qualifying Competition 2010
We are delighted with the decision by the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting competitions to agree to introduce a qualifying competition for the Silver Medal. The proposal emanated from the CPA Grading Committee during the annual grading process for 2010, because of the broad high standard across the B grade band. The Grading Committee strongly felt that we should find a mechanism for providing all pipers graded at B with the opportunity to gain a competition place at the Silver Medal events.
Entrants with strong track records have been awarded a 'reserved place' and will not have to qualify. Reserve places number 18 at Oban and 20 at Inverness - the reason for the difference is the higher number of places available for the Gold Medal at Oban, and therefore the ability to accommodate more A- graded pipers in the Gold Medal list. Consistent with the CPA grading process, only B graded pipers or above, who have registered for the 2010 competitions and have not been awarded a 'reserved place', will be eligible for the Qualifier.
We are also delighted to see the change in the qualifying criteria for the Former Winners MSR at Oban - from 2010 the event will be open to winners of the individual March and Strathspey/Reel events instead of the requirement to win both, which has been in place for the last few years.
The CPA was represented at the Joint Eligibility Meeting by John-Angus Smith (President), Willie McCallum (Chairman, Grading Committee) and Tracey Williams (Secretary). We are satisfied with the rigour of the eligibility process and the decisions made.
